The Transport Innovation Summit run by Russel Publishing was a little different this year compared to previous years.
Due to Coronavirus, the summit was unable to commence in the ordinary format of face to face networking, physical exhibitions and keynotes/panels/workshops held in a physical auditorium.
Instead the summit was, for the first time, held online. An experience that has become all to familiar to most of the planet in these unprecedented times. Having said that though it did not dampen the spirits of everyone involved, who seemed more than happy to engage with the event in the new digital format.
The summit began with a 2-day focus towards the rail sector of the transport industry with topics including discussions on:
- environmental solutions
- customer experience
- freight
- communications
- operational safety & efficiency
The summit then moved towards the bus, coach & road transport sector of the industry for the last 3 days which included discussions regarding:
- dynamic operations – real-time data analysis
- e-Ticketing
- hyperloop technology
- seamless travel
- safety & incident reduction
- MaaS – Mobility as a Service
- customer experience
- environmental solutions
Overall the event was insightful and diverse however the biggest takeaway from the summit was that innovation and technology is being more embraced but needs to be embraced industry wide at a faster rate in order to keep the industry from spiralling into redundancy.
